Information about the Governing Body

The governors have a strategic role supporting and challenging the Head Teacher.  Governors work as a team, in the best interests of the children and the school, actively support the school in achieving an excellent standard of education. More specifically, they:

  • Appoint the Head Teacher, who has day to day responsibility for everything that happens in a school and is accountable to them.
  • Agree how the school’s money is allocated.
  • Agree policies about the way the governing body and the school work.
  • Ensure new initiatives and guidelines from the Department for Education and the education authority are put in place.

 

The governors do their main work in three committees, which are listed below. All committees meet regularly throughout the year and report back on their progress and matters arising at the full governors meetings.  The full governing body formally meets about five times a year. 

The Instrument of Government comprises of the following:

  • 3 Parent governors
  • 1 LA governor
  • 1 Staff governors
  • 1 Head Teacher
  • 3 Foundation governor
  • 3 Co-Opted governors
All governor positions term of office is 4 years.

The Governing Body endeavours to take a strategic role, act as a critical friend to the School and be accountable for its decisions.
 
Committees:
 
Standards & Curriculum meet to ensure quality provision, challenging and supporting the teaching and learning in school so that pupils can make the best possible progress.
 
Ethos & Strategic Planning monitors and reviews policies and procedures and ensures the school is acting in accordance with statutory regulations together with planning for the future.
 
Resources & Compliance supports and challenges the school to ensure that resources (both physical and human) are of high quality and are implemented in accordance with the financial regulations.
