I initially became a parent governor when my daughter started at the school. I believe it is important for parents and members of the local community to actively monitor and support their local school. Primary (and secondary) education are a vital component to the growth of our children and something we must improve wherever possible for their best interests. This is not just the educational standards achieved, but also their involvement in sport, music, the arts and being aware of and contributing to their local community. Norton excels in the way it is inclusive of all aspects within our local community.

I joined Norton School as a Foundation Governor in September 2017. I live in Sandhurst and have four grown-up children all of whom attended C of E schools. As a church warden and general administrator I am heavily involved in the churches across the Seven Towers benefice, one of which is at Norton. My passionate interest is in promoting Christian distinctiveness and core values across the whole curriculum that underpin the ethos of the school and encourage every child to be a ‘star’.
In recent working life I have been involved with church school inspections and publishing materials to promote values education, initially through Jumping Fish Ltd. In 2012 a colleague and I set up Imaginor Ltd which publishes resources for collective worship, spiritual and moral development in primary schools.
I look forward to serving as a governor and being part of the team that helps Norton school to continue in its excellent provision that is inclusive of all children in our community and strives to enable every child to achieve their potential.

I am a mum to 4 children, 2 of whom attended Norton Primary School and 1 (Fionn Humphris) who works here. I have been a Governor for a few years now, after I wanted to understand how decisions were made about running the school, what needed to be in the curriculum and how subjects were taught. I have a special interest in literacy and meet regularly with Miss Parker to ask questions about how literacy is taught and progress recorded. I come into school regularly to listen to children reading.I also have responsibilities as Safeguarding and Early Years Governor.
Outside of school. I work in a Community Learning Disabilities Team as an Occupational Therapist, and as a secretary for my husband's groundworks business. When not working I enjoy many activities including baking, dining out, reading, watching quad biking, caravanning..........
I would like the school to achieve the recognition they deserve for all the hard work and dedication the staff put in every day. They are a fantastic team.

I’ve been lucky enough to of worked at Norton Primary School for over 7 years now, first starting as a volunteer in January 2012. During my time here, I’ve worked with children of pre-school age through to year six, became a school governor and gained a wealth of knowledge and support from an amazing staff team. My job involves supporting children 1:1, small group work and whole class teaching. The last couple of years, I’ve enjoyed working closely with Helen Frost to achieve the Healthy Schools and Mental Health awards for our school, which we are so proud of.
Out of school I spend my free time with my husband, family and friends. I love to visit new places, try new things and eat good food!
I live by my favourite quote and try to bring the moral of it through to the children I work with, it was said by my childhood friend Christopher Robin (Winnie the Pooh), ‘You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think.’

I have been a parent at Norton since 2013 and am very grateful to have been able to have both our daughters attend. Our youngest has needed extra support during her school life and the support she received has been excellent. My desire to become a Governor stemmed from wanting to give something back and help to support the Norton team.
My background is in accountancy and I have run my own business for over 10 years.
As well as being a Governor for the school I am also the Clerk for Norton Parish Council and represent the school on the Village Hall Management committee, so I have a good understanding of the community as well as of the school.
Our family are all very active and we love to take part in team sports as well as paddle boarding and mountain biking, we also enjoy cooking together as a family.
I am very proud to be a Parent Governor for the school and take great pleasure in being the link Governor for sports and SEN, I hope to help support the Norton team to develop what is already a wonderful school.

Norton is a good and successful school; both my sons’ are very happy here, they’ve benefited from the great facilities available and of course the dedicated staff led by Mrs Johnson. I want to put something back by helping to contribute to Norton’s continuing success – so I decided to seek election to the Governing Body.
Since leaving university I’ve worked in the Finance Industry – and the last seven years for Lloyds Bank.
My work involves the analysis of financial data, making decisions and reporting. I work as part of a team so effective team working is very important, something that I feel I’m good at.
In between working and bringing up my family I enjoy reading and baking. Holidays away are spent in Cornwall and in France – I can’t really say which is best - both are much enjoyed by us all.
I am very proud to be a Governor at Norton School and would love to see the school continue to build upon the success that it has already achieved. I hope to support the Governing Body in helping Mrs Johnson and her staff achieve Ofsted outstanding school status.

Hi I’m Phillipa, a parent Governor and Chair of Standards and Curriculum. I have two children, one in school and one in Little Learners. I’m a large animal veterinary surgeon and work mainly with sheep and some small animals occasionally!
We farm a tenanted county council farm at Coombe Hill where we have sheep and pigs. We also run Coombe Hill Farm Shop. We all get involved on the farm and love having visits from Norton School.
In my spare time I will run up any hill that I can find, and love going out for a good dance!

I joined the governing board in 2021 as I am keen to contribute to the governance of the school, supporting the fantastic leadership team that Norton C of E have. With a growing family we are at the beginning of our journey with Norton and look forward to seeing the school continue to flourish.
I live in the village and currently have one son attending Norton who has been there since Little Learners. In life beyond the village I am CEO of Gloucestershire Counselling Services - a charity providing training in counselling and the delivery of counselling services across the county. I am a Business Psychologist by training and support organisations in understanding people better.
I've always got too many books on the go, listening to lots of different podcasts and am happiest while attempting to grow vegetables!

I’m a retired lawyer and company director and moved to Norton nearly 3 years ago after living in Westbury on Severn for 16 years.
I’ve been married to Gaby for over 40 years and we have 2 grown-up sons and 4 grandchildren. My youngest son and my grandson were born profoundly deaf and therefore I have a particular interest in special needs education.
I have been a Citizens’ Advice Bureau Trustee for the past 12 years, including 8 years as Chairman of the Forest of Dean bureau until it merged with its counterparts in Gloucester and Tewkesbury. This has given me an insight into a wide range of local social issues.
I recently stepped down after 10 years as a member of Gloucestershire County Council’s School Admissions Appeal Panel and its School Exclusions Panel. I heard appeals from parents whose child hadn’t been allocated a place at their preferred school, and appeals from pupils excluded from school for disciplinary reasons.
I was elected a Parish Councillor last May. I passionately believe that our school represents the “heart” of the community and I look forward to helping support Jane and her team.
