Meet the Governors

Foundation Governors (appointed by the Dioceses).

Mr Anthony Crawshaw

Chair of Governors

Anthony Crawshaw – 01/02/2021 - 31/01/2025
•Committees - Resources & Compliance / Standards & Curriculum

I initially became a parent governor when my daughter started at the school. I believe it is important for parents and members of the local community to actively monitor and support their local school. Primary (and secondary) education are a vital component to the growth of our children and something we must improve wherever possible for their best interests. This is not just the educational standards achieved, but also their involvement in sport, music, the arts and being aware of and contributing to their local community. Norton excels in the way it is inclusive of all aspects within our local community.

Carolyn Wright – 01/07/2017 – 30/06/2025
•Committee - Ethos & Strategic Planning

I joined Norton School as a Foundation Governor in September 2017. I live in Sandhurst and have four grown-up children all of whom attended C of E schools. As a church warden and general administrator I am heavily involved in the churches across the Seven Towers benefice, one of which is at Norton. My passionate interest is in promoting Christian distinctiveness and core values across the whole curriculum that underpin the ethos of the school and encourage every child to be a ‘star’.

In recent working life I have been involved with church school inspections and publishing materials to promote values education, initially through Jumping Fish Ltd. In 2012 a colleague and I set up Imaginor Ltd which publishes resources for collective worship, spiritual and moral development in primary schools.

I look forward to serving as a governor and being part of the team that helps Norton school to continue in its excellent provision that is inclusive of all children in our community and strives to enable every child to achieve their potential.

Mrs Elizabeth Humphris

•Committee – Standards & Curriculum

I am a mum to 4 children, 2 of whom attended Norton Primary School and 1 (Fionn Humphris) who works here. I have been a Governor for a few years now, after I wanted to understand how decisions were made about running the school, what needed to be in the curriculum and how subjects were taught. I have a special interest in literacy and meet regularly with Miss Parker to ask questions about how literacy is taught and progress recorded. I come into school regularly to listen to children reading.I also have responsibilities as Safeguarding and Early Years Governor.

Outside of school. I work in a Community Learning Disabilities Team as an Occupational Therapist, and as a secretary for my husband's groundworks business. When not working I enjoy many activities including baking, dining out, reading, watching quad biking, caravanning..........

I would like the school to achieve the recognition they deserve for all the hard work and dedication the staff put in every day. They are a fantastic team.

Mrs Fiona Phelps

Vice Chair of Governors

Fiona Phelps - 20/10/21 - 19/10/2025
Committee - Resources & Strategic Planning

I joined the governing board in 2021 as I am keen to contribute to the governance of the school, supporting the fantastic leadership team that Norton C of E have. With a growing family we are at the beginning of our journey with Norton and look forward to seeing the school continue to flourish.

I live in the village and currently have one son attending Norton who has been there since Little Learners. In life beyond the village I am CEO of Gloucestershire Counselling Services - a charity providing training in counselling and the delivery of counselling services across the county. I am a Business Psychologist by training and support organisations in understanding people better.

I've always got too many books on the go, listening to lots of different podcasts and am happiest while attempting to grow vegetables!

Mr Richard Page

Richard Page - 27/11/2019 - 20/09/2027
Committee - Resources & Compliance

I’m a retired lawyer and company director and moved to Norton nearly 3 years ago after living in Westbury on Severn for 16 years.

I’ve been married to Gaby for over 40 years and we have 2 grown-up sons and 4 grandchildren. My youngest son and my grandson were born profoundly deaf and therefore I have a particular interest in special needs education.

I have been a Citizens’ Advice Bureau Trustee for the past 12 years, including 8 years as Chairman of the Forest of Dean bureau until it merged with its counterparts in Gloucester and Tewkesbury. This has given me an insight into a wide range of local social issues.

I recently stepped down after 10 years as a member of Gloucestershire County Council’s School Admissions Appeal Panel and its School Exclusions Panel. I heard appeals from parents whose child hadn’t been allocated a place at their preferred school, and appeals from pupils excluded from school for disciplinary reasons.

I was elected a Parish Councillor last May. I passionately believe that our school represents the “heart” of the community and I look forward to helping support Jane and her team.
