Reconstitution of the Governing Body

Reconstitution of the Governing Body

All schools were required to review the constitution of their governing body during 2014/5. The governors have completed this activity, which has been approved by the Local Authority (Gloucestershire County Council) and Gloucester Diocese as our foundation partner. This note explains the outcome of that review, and how this will impact on the existing and future membership of our governing body.

The reason for the review was to increase the variety of skills available to better support each school. This also looked at the overall size of the governing body and allowed changes to how governors were selected or elected.

The make-up of the governing body has been altered as shown below:

Staff and parent governors will continue to be elected. All other governors (except the incumbent of the local church benefice) would be proposed by the relevant group and agreed by the governing body after consideration of the skills needs of the school. Such proposals could be rejected by the governing body if not meeting those needs. The new Co-Opted governors, in effect, replace the previous Local Community criteria.

At the time of the reconstitution there were governor vacancies. Due to this, the current governors fitted within the reconstitution.

The governors have also undertaken a skills review to enable future governor proposals to be considered.

At present there are no governor vacancies.
