• Physical Education (PE)

Physical education plays a vital role at Norton Primary School, supporting not only pupils’ physical health but also their confidence, teamwork, and overall wellbeing. Through a carefully planned and engaging PE curriculum, children are encouraged to develop fundamental movement skills, build resilience, and foster a lifelong love of being active. We believe that regular physical activity enhances concentration, improves mental health, and contributes positively to children’s academic success.

At Norton Primary School, we are proud to be a fully inclusive environment where every child is valued and supported. All pupils, regardless of gender or ability, are given equal opportunities to participate and succeed in physical education. Our approach ensures that activities are adapted where necessary so that every child can feel confident, challenged, and included. We celebrate effort and progress just as much as achievement, helping all children to develop a positive attitude towards sport and physical activity.

Mastering fundamental movement skills in the early years of primary school is essential, as it provides the foundation for all future physical activity and sport. Skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, and balancing help children develop coordination, confidence, and body awareness in a fun and supportive environment. As pupils progress through the school, these core skills are built upon and applied within more structured activities, including team games. This progression allows children to refine their technique, understand rules and tactics, and develop important social skills such as communication, cooperation, and sportsmanship. By building strong foundations early on, children are better equipped to enjoy and succeed in a wide range of physical activities as they grow.
