Teaching at Norton:
As a Church of England school, we place great importance on teaching Religious Education (RE) and Worldviews to all year groups.
Each week we dedicate time to this subject, ensuring our pupils gain a broad and balanced understanding of faiths and beliefs from around the world. We are proud to have dedicated teachers who lead RE lessons, providing expert guidance and support to our students.
Our curriculum follows the Gloucestershire Agreed Syllabus for RE, which is currently being updated, and we will be implementing the new version from September 2025. To teach the Christian aspects of the syllabus, we also use the Understanding Christianity resource, which helps our students explore the key teachings and stories of the Christian faith. We also explore other worldviews beyond religious perspectives, highlighting the diversity of beliefs and practices in our society. By doing so, we aim to show how our culture is rich and varied, fostering an appreciation for the diverse world in which we live.
Through this approach, we strive to develop a deep understanding and respect for different worldviews, while nurturing each child’s spiritual growth.

Resources and cross-curricular links:
To support our lessons on Religious Education and Worldviews, we use a variety of physical resources to enrich learning across the four major religions we cover: Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, and Christianity. These resources help bring the religions to life, offering students a hands-on approach to learning about the beliefs, practices, and traditions of each faith.
In addition to these resources, we employ a wide range of teaching methods to engage all learners, often linking RE lessons to other subjects such as Art, English, and ICT, among others. This cross-curricular approach helps students make meaningful connections between different areas of their education.
Below are copies of the Gloucester agreed syllabus for RE (this will be changed in September 2025 when we adopt the updated syllabus) and also our RE and Worldviews policy.
