At Norton C of E Primary School, Art, Design and Technology links closely with our school vision.
Children strive to develop their creativity, imagination and practical skills, think creatively and critically as designers, artists and problem-solvers, developing the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in modern Britain, act by expressing their ideas, exploring possibilities and celebrating the creativity and achievements of others, and respect different cultures, artistic traditions, ideas and perspectives, understanding that everyone is equal and has the right to express themselves.
Art, Design and Technology teaching at Norton inspires children to be creative, curious and confident in expressing their ideas. We encourage children to explore a wide range of artists, designers, craftspeople, materials and techniques, whilst developing an understanding of how creativity and design have shaped the world around us. Through drawing, painting, sculpture, textiles, construction, mechanisms, cooking and designing and making, children develop their ability to experiment, take risks, solve problems and communicate their ideas.
Children develop a greater understanding and knowledge of art, design and technology, as well as their place within the wider creative world. They are encouraged to appreciate the work of others, celebrate differences and understand how art, design and technology are influenced by different cultures, societies and periods of history. The Art, Design and Technology curriculum at Norton allows children to develop knowledge and skills that can be used across other curriculum areas, whilst also supporting their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
Our curriculum is designed to develop children’s knowledge, skills and creativity progressively throughout their years at Norton and into their further education. Children are encouraged to become independent and resourceful thinkers who can design, create, evaluate and improve their work, whilst developing a lifelong appreciation of creativity, craftsmanship and innovation.
We are fully inclusive and appropriate adaptations are made for children with additional needs so that they can access and participate in the Art, Design and Technology curriculum. Every child is given the opportunity to be creative, develop their skills and experience success, regardless of their starting point or level of ability.Art intent

Design and Technology intent
By the time our children have finished their time at Norton we know that they will be:
