Norton Little Learners Pre-school is based in the busy and vibrant Norton C of E Primary School. Our pre-school is accommodated within the school where we welcome children from 3 years up until their entry to Reception. Parents can access our pre-school provision using the government free childcare funding. Sessions outside of this entitlement will be chargeable. Pre-school sessions run from Monday-Friday 8:45am-2:45pm, we also offer morning (8:45-11:45am) and afternoon (11:45am-2:45pm) sessions. In some instances, we do not facilitate children to do full day sessions immediately. This is a decision made by the Pre-School Lead, and it will be decided by the individual child’s needs.
Prior to admission, the Pre-School Lead will meet with or contact parents. The purpose of this is to discuss any important information relating to the child and family that staff will need to be aware of, e.g, likes/dislikes, any medical, social or nutritional need and any other considerations relevant to the child taking up a place in the pre-school. Children will generally be offered initial settling in sessions prior to them taking a space, this is done on an individual basis, depending on the child’s needs.
When our pre-school is at capacity parents may place their child’s name on a waiting list and will be notified when a place becomes available. Spaces are offered on a first come, first served basis.
Parents are warmly invited to visit our pre-school for an initial look round and meeting with the staff in the Pre-School. Registration forms can be found on the school’s website and also obtained from the school office.
All prices can be found under Pricing/Free for 3&4 Funding.
Session Structure:
Pre-school runs Monday to Friday (term time only) with full-day and half-day sessions. We may limit full-day sessions for children who might find it difficult to manage the longer hours, based on their individual needs. The Pre-School Lead will make this decision in consultation with parents.
Admission Process:
To apply for a place, parents need to complete and submit a Norton Little Learners Admission Form, indicating the days requested. Admissions are processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and all information provided is kept confidential.
The main intake occurs in September, in line with the school year. There are limited opportunities for enrolment during the academic year, and in-year admissions depend on availability. We cannot guarantee spaces mid-year, but children can join the waiting list for potential openings. Most children attend the pre-school for one year before moving into Reception.
Attendance and Punctuality:
Children must be dropped off and picked up on time by a responsible adult aged 16 or older, who must inform staff upon arrival and departure. Regular attendance is essential (in line with the pre-schools sickness policy), and repeated lateness or absence may result in the child’s place being withdrawn.
Settling-In Process:
Before starting, the Pre-School Lead will meet with or contact parents to discuss important details such as medical needs, preferences, or any other considerations. Settling-in sessions will be offered based on the individual needs of the child. For the first session, we require a parent/carer to stay with the child for their first hour session. After this, a tailored settling in timetable will be offered to introduce a supportive and gentle start to Pre-school.
Capacity:
The pre-school has a daily capacity of 16 children.
Visits and Applications:
Parents are warmly invited to visit the pre-school and meet the staff before applying. Application forms can be found on the school website or obtained from the school office by contacting Miss Smith, the School Finance Officer.
